O-Chem App Privacy Policy

O-Chem App ("we", "our", or "us") operates the O-Chem App mobile and web application (the "Service"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use the Service on iOS, Android, or the Web.

1. Information We Collect

• Anonymous user identifier. On first launch we generate a random, opaque ID stored on your device. It is not derived from personal information and is used only to associate your learning data with a stable account.
• Learning progress. Topics studied, lessons completed, flashcard ratings, study streaks, time spent, quiz scores, and similar in-app activity.
• Optional account. If you choose to create an account (e.g. to sync across devices when Supabase authentication is enabled) we may collect your email address and authentication metadata.
• User-provided content. Molecule images, drawings, and the free-text prompts you submit to the AI tutor.
• Error reports. Crash and error metadata captured by Sentry (device model, OS version, stack traces, breadcrumbs).
• Analytics events. Limited feature-usage events captured by PostHog. PostHog may collect device identifiers according to its SDK defaults.
• Purchase receipts. Subscription and one-time purchase transactions validated by RevenueCat and the Apple App Store / Google Play Store.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

• Provide, operate, and improve the O-Chem App learning experience, including spaced-repetition scheduling and progress tracking.
• Power AI tutoring features. Your prompts and uploaded molecule images are transmitted to OpenAI and Google Gemini (directly or via our FastAPI backend proxy) to generate responses. Do not include sensitive personal data in prompts or images.
• Authenticate you, sync your progress across devices, and protect your account.
• Process subscription payments and manage entitlements.
• Diagnose crashes, debug issues, and analyse aggregated usage trends.

3. Third-Party Services

We rely on the following processors, each governed by their own privacy policy:

4. Data Retention

We retain your learning data for as long as your account is active. You may request deletion of your account and all associated data at any time by emailing david@ochemshop.com. We will action verified requests within 30 days. Aggregated, non-identifiable analytics may be retained for longer.

5. Children's Privacy

The Service is not directed to children under 13 (COPPA, US) or under 16 (GDPR-K, EU/UK). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact david@ochemshop.com and we will delete it.

6. Your Rights

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to access, correct, port, or delete your personal information, and to object to or restrict its processing. Contact us at david@ochemshop.com to exercise these rights.

7. International Transfers

Some of our processors are located in the United States and other countries. By using the Service you understand that your information may be transferred to, stored in, and processed in those countries.

8. Security

We use commercially reasonable safeguards (encryption in transit, restricted access, vetted subprocessors) to protect your information. No system is perfectly secure.

9. Changes to This Policy

We will post material changes in the app and update the "Effective date" above. Continued use of the Service after a change constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
